Standby Generator Installation in Foley, Alabama

Foley is one of the fastest-growing cities in Alabama — new subdivisions along the Foley Beach Express and County Roads 12 and 20, and long-established streets closer in. All of it sits about ten miles from the Gulf, squarely in the path of whatever makes landfall. A standby generator keeps a Foley home running through multi-day outages, automatically. Generator Considerations for Foley Homes

Foley's split personality — municipal utilities in town, country infrastructure at the edges — drives most quote differences:

In town, it's all Riviera: Foley is home to Riviera Utilities, the municipal board that provides the city's electricity and natural gas. In-city homes usually have the easiest fuel path: natural gas, no tank.
At the edges, think wells and septic: Larger lots outside the utility core often run on well water and septic systems. When the power dies, so does the water. A generator sized for the well pump (and a septic pump, if your system has one) is the difference between an inconvenience and an uninhabitable house — try the sizing calculator with those loads checked.
Propane country: Where Riviera's gas lines haven't reached, a buried or above-ground propane tank is the standard setup. It costs more up front and buys fuel independence from both grids.
New construction timing: In Foley's new subdivisions, adding a generator during or just after the build is the cheapest moment to do it — pad, gas, and panel work all get easier.

Permits & HOA Checklist — Foley

City permits: The City of Foley Building Department (Community Development) handles permits, with applications and inspections run through its CitizenServe portal. Your installer typically pulls the building and trade permits.
Wind standards: Foley builds to strong coastal wind codes and actively promotes IBHS FORTIFIED construction standards — ask how your generator's pad, anchoring, and fuel connections fit the same resilience approach.
Gas work: Licensed plumber for the gas line, sized for full load; Riviera Utilities handles the meter side for natural gas customers.
HOA approval: Newer subdivisions (Kraft Farms, Cottages on the Greene, and similar communities) require architectural approval for exterior equipment — submit before installation day.
Placement: Manufacturer clearances from windows, doors, and vents govern where the unit sits — see the diagram in the cost guide.
